Lucky Instameet at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Recap

At the BCBG runway
Last week, I was extremely fortunate to win a contest with Lucky Magazine for their first ever Lucky Instameet at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center.  It was a whirlwind of an event.  I had found out I had been selected on Monday and then off to NYC by Wednesday.  Thursday morning I found myself at Lincoln Center.  IMG, Instagram and Lucky Magazine put together a great behind the scenes tour to Fashion Week.  The winners got to check out the new exhibition space and all the new runways.  We even got a glimpse backstage at Richard Chai as they were prepping for the runway.

The finale of our event was a meet and greet with Eva Chen, Editor-in-Chief of Lucky Magazine, and some special guests.  If you follow Eva on Instagram and wondered what she was like in real life, her bubbly and  energetic personality don't just come through on her photos.   She was extremely gracious and kind; made sure that everyone had their photo taken with her even though she was running late to another event.  To be so thoughtful of the contest winners was so sweet, you just want to be friends with her.... which is probably why she brought so many great special guests in tow our Instameet!   Two of my favorite fashion bloggers, Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast and Aimee Song of Song of Style were there.  Aimee even brought Dani (my favorite Song sister)!    The model, sometimes blogger, Soojoo Park was also there in between runway shows!  It was a great afternoon of gushing, oohing and ahhing and picture snapping.

How gorgeous is Rumi?  How awesome is that coat?

Thank you Lucky for making a fashion dream come true.  It was truly an amazing event to meet so many cool and influential industry people and bloggers.  I had the best time and hope to return some day to Fashion Week.  Until next time....

Thanks to an awesome Instagram contest from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and Lucky Magazine, I'm headed to New York to hang out with the ever so inspiring Eva Chen, Editor in Chief, and Lucky team at Lincoln Center!   To enter you had to "gram" your favorite fashion items and tag @mbfashionweek and @luckymagazine with the #luckyinstameet.  Fifteen finalists were selected to meet the Lucky team this Thursday in New York, and I can't believe I was one of them.  Above is the winning photo.  Of course, Marlowe is included.  He is always in style!

The Spotted Pig / NYC Travel Diary

The Spotted Pig.
One of my favorite restaurants in New York City is a little gastropub called The Spotted Pig located in the West Village.  It's very English in decor.  Crowded and even more crowded with any and every kind of pig decor imaginable.  It's overwhelmingly charming and warm.  The staff is welcoming, and it feels completely homey.  I love to go for brunch early on a Sunday and get their biscuit and scrambled egg.  Hands down the most delicious biscuit I have ever had.

Visiting Wonderland / Veronica Lake Waves / Classic Hairstyle, Not So Classic Color

The finished look
I'll be heading to NYC soon... but before I do I wanted to get photos up from my last trip.  I was recently there in November for a friend's wedding.  I wanted to have a polished look for the black tie event, so I went to one of my favorite beauty studio's in New York, Wonderland Beauty Parlour.  Jeb did my hair in a classic Veronica Lake side sweep.  With my bright purple color, it was a real contrast!

To achieve this look, Jeb barrel curled my hair with a 1.25" curling iron and pinned it to cool.  Each lock was sprayed with Oribe Soft Lacquer spray (my new secret weapon for hot tool looks!).  Then it was brushed out.  Voila!

Ok, going to be late.

End result.

Not bad.
Have you gotten your hair done recently?  What kind of look do you go for?  Have you ever tried this look at home?

Rescue Me! Thank You Rescue Beauty Lounge for Saving My Nails! Insouciant - Photos, Swatches

My nails saved by Rescue Beauty Lounge.

Friday, on my glorious day of beauty with the fabulous GlowyJoeyBunny, who writes for PinkSith.com, we stopped by early to visit Ji Baek at Rescue Beauty Lounge. My nails were in desperate need of saving.  After working like a maniac, packing, traveling and running around the streets of New York for pre-IMATS coverage, my nails were such a wreck.

Ji welcomed us into her sanctuary of a spa and was the most hospitable and hilarious hostess.  Everyone knows that Ji is beautiful, fashionable and business savvy, but she is also incredibly funny.  By the time we left, our tips and toes were perfection and we were also in stitches.  Thank you Ji for having us, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Nails in need of saving: broken index nail, tippage, dry cuticles.  Halp!
Saved!  Rescued by Rescue.

I opted for a manicure in Insouciant from the new Ironic/Iconic collection.  It's a sophisticated lavender purple with tiny sapphire microshimmer.  I'm loving this grown-up taken on a pastel purple for spring.

Insouciant is available in limited quantities at www.rescuebeauty.com for $18.  Rescue Beauty Lounge is located at 34 Gansevoort Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY.

IMATS New York - Saturday April 9, 2011 - Day 1 Coverage!

 IMATS welcome to New York!!!

82 Mercer was the place to be this morning at 8am.  The line was already down the block.  IMATS, International Make-Up Artist Trade Show, is in the Empire State for the first time and found its way to Soho this morning.

What I found exciting about IMATS vs other makeup trade shows is its focus on artistry in the industries of fashion, entertainment and not just what's considered "normal" beauty.  On the first floor, there was an amazing makeup mini-museum devoted to the artistry of makeup in television and movies.  I have some special photos from this that I'll be sharing on a later post.  The speaker sessions range from things everyone makeup artist, professional or amateur should know, such as Makeup for Ageless Beauty, to topics which are really targeted for hardcore theatrical makeup professionals like Zombies 101 - Intro to Creature Creation

I was able to get in a few moments early before the chaos of the sold-out crowd came in.

There is so much more to report, but now it's time to actually to have dinner!  Check back later for more coverage.  Tomorrow is also another day!  So there will be plenty to report!

Glowy Day of Beauty With GlowyJoeyBunny! Our NARS Makeovers!

Bleecker St. never looked so bright!  GlowyJoeyBunny and me!
Nars new flagship at 413 Bleecker Street.

On Friday, before the IMATS madness, the beautiful and bubbly GlowyJoeyBunny, who writes for PinkSith.com, and I reunited for a day of fun and beauty.  First, we stopped at Rescue Beauty Lounge and got our nailz did.  We gabbed with owner and founder, Ji Baek, who is not only smart, beautiful and fashionable... but also insanely funny. I'm saving that portion of our day for another post so stay tuned for that one.

Post Rescue, we went to have lunch at The Spotted Pig.  They should either rename it The Stuffed Pig, because it's full of itself, or The Spotted Snail, because of the service.  It took us 1.5 hours to get 1 egg and toasts essentially (though they were both delicious... see below).

We abandoned our never-arriving lunch for our makeovers at NARS.  I was excited to check out the new flagship on Bleecker Street.  It's great to see more beauty on this block, among the multiplying Marc Jacobs stores and Magnolia cupcakes.

Check out JoeyBunny's awesome NARS tote.
I know it's her monocur but don't you think we're both glowy here? hehe

Makeup on JoeyBunny:
She wanted to go for a fun summery look to combat the grey-ish weather we were having on Friday.  Cindy, JoeyBun's artist, went for bronzy cheeks and bright lips.
Eyes: Copacabana The Multiple on browbone, Nepal Single Eyeshadow on lids, Sophia in the crease to the orbital bone, lower lashline.  Coconut Grove in the outer V to deepen.  Bali on eyebrows.
Face: Laguna bronzer and Madly blush for cheeks.
Lips: Jungle Red lip liner, Schiap lipstick, Easy Lover gloss.

Makeup on Robin:
I wasn't specific on my look but just wanted to try some of the new products from the Spring collection that I hadn't tried yet.  Kara, my artist, created a light smoky neutral eye with a colorful lip, but kept the overall look soft and approachable.
Face: Punjab Sheer Glow foundation mixed with The Brightening Serum (which I love).
Eyes: All three shades in the new trio, Calanque, were used on my eye look.  Zardoz cream eyeshadow to line the eye, and Bali Single Eyeshadow on the brows.
Cheeks: Maldvies The Multiple to highlight.  Madly blush.
Lips: Marnie lipliner, Baroque Gloss Pencil.

 Louboutin, always a pleasure.
 Outside The Spotted Pig.
Spring is here at The Spotted Pig.  Our food is not.
 Chicken liver toast.
Deviled egg.

Thank you J for the bestest, funnest day of beauty ever!  I hope we can make it a regular when I come back to NYC! :)

If you're in the NYC area, definitely check out the new flagship store.  We hear that Francois occasionally drops in!  But if you can't make it, you can check out www.narscometics.com.

Live From New York It's Beautyburg!!!!!

 Me in Times Square.

I don't think I have ever photographed myself in Times Square before today.  Living here, it was just a place that I walked through twice daily on my way to and from work.  Well, here I am in Times Square taking a photo and loving every second of it!

 MAC Times Square

I never went into this location much when I lived here because it was more of a tourist center.  Today I went to check out the Quite Cute collection which released today.

One thing to love about Times Square... SEPHORA!

This is the flagship Sephora store in the US.  It's still one of my favorites to go to.  The staff is super friendly, even with the overwhelming traffic.   I've seen the layout change over the years, and I'm always impressed with how tidy they keep it.

Another reason to love Times Square.... ANOTHER SEPHORA!

Yes, another Sephora just 1.5 blocks away.  LOL.  Unnecessary you say?  Try telling me that when I'm trying to hunt down the Naked palette.  Pssshtttt...

Today, I also stopped by Inglot, but I'm going to wait to get my 20 pans at IMATS or their Chelsea Market studio.  I also went to a PRO social at Make Up For Ever's studio which was really fun.  Koren of EnKoreMakeup was there!  Such a nice treat to meet a YouTube celebrity.

Big day tomorrow!  Stay tuned.  Follow me on Twitter for the real time updates and scoop on what  I'm doing and where I am! :)
