Rescue Me! Thank You Rescue Beauty Lounge for Saving My Nails! Insouciant - Photos, Swatches

My nails saved by Rescue Beauty Lounge.

Friday, on my glorious day of beauty with the fabulous GlowyJoeyBunny, who writes for PinkSith.com, we stopped by early to visit Ji Baek at Rescue Beauty Lounge. My nails were in desperate need of saving.  After working like a maniac, packing, traveling and running around the streets of New York for pre-IMATS coverage, my nails were such a wreck.

Ji welcomed us into her sanctuary of a spa and was the most hospitable and hilarious hostess.  Everyone knows that Ji is beautiful, fashionable and business savvy, but she is also incredibly funny.  By the time we left, our tips and toes were perfection and we were also in stitches.  Thank you Ji for having us, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Nails in need of saving: broken index nail, tippage, dry cuticles.  Halp!
Saved!  Rescued by Rescue.

I opted for a manicure in Insouciant from the new Ironic/Iconic collection.  It's a sophisticated lavender purple with tiny sapphire microshimmer.  I'm loving this grown-up taken on a pastel purple for spring.

Insouciant is available in limited quantities at www.rescuebeauty.com for $18.  Rescue Beauty Lounge is located at 34 Gansevoort Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY.

Congrats to the Finalists! My Rescue Beauty Lounge Fan Collection Entry!

The photo from my Rescue Beauty Lounge fan collection submission.

A little over a month ago, Rescue Beauty Lounge held a contest for fans for to submit their idea for their dream nail polish.  The finalists have been selected!  Out of over 500 submissions, Ji Baek, founder and owner of RBL, narrowed it down to 11.  You can vote for them here.  Unfortunately, my submission didn't make it, but I wanted to congratulate all the finalists and wish them the best of luck and also thank Ji for holding this contest.

I also wanted to share my entry with you.  Here is the paragraph that I wrote for my submission.  It was based on something that I discovered early in my relationship with my now husband, and it lead to be my inspiration for my wedding dress, which I designed and made.
I first discovered moonstone while killing time at Lucy Barnes boutique before meeting friends for drinks.  In a crowded store, it felt that all the light was being pulled in and redirected as rainbows through a tiny bracelet.  The rough cut stones on this moonstone bracelet transcended into blue, green, red, yellow, violet from different angles in the light.  These seemingly white stones shifted and morphed, mesmerizing and drawing me in.  Moonstone is not only the idea for this nail polish, but it was the inspiration for my wedding dress.  I created the dress to capture the light and to be iridescent just like the stone.  This photo shows moonstone pieces that I used on my wedding gown on top of fabric from the dress.   I envision Moonstone, the nail polish, to be a semi-sheer soft luminous white creating a rainbow of opalescent effects in different lights.  I want this nail polish to make the wearer feel that all the light in the room is drawn through her and that she radiating rainbows.
I know so many of you had beautiful and creative ideas, and it's a shame that some of them weren't showcased.  Many of you have already shared your submission ideas on Twitter, but feel free to post them in the comments below (with links to the pictures if you have them)!

Peace, Love, Nails - Rescue Beauty Lounge No More War - Swatches, Photos and Review - New Twitter Name!

No More War

Happy Monday everyone!  Just a quick note that you can now find us @Beautyburg on Twitter vs "beenofone."  If you were following me as beenofone, you will continue to follow as Beautyburg.  I just wanted to add continuity to the blog and Twitter.  If you don't follow us yet, follow me on Twitter!  It's the fastest way to all the good Marlowe photos! :)

I wanted to start off week with on a positive note.  As we are all anticipating the finalists from Ji's Rescue Beauty Lounge Fan Collection contest, read about here if you don't know about (sorry it's already closed!), let's take a look at one of my favorite RBL polishes.  No More War is an olive camo green creme with exceptional coverage and wear.  As much as a perfectionist as Ji is, there are differenciations between applications among the colors.  No More War is utter creamy, smooth perfection when applied.  Two coats and you are done.  This shade of green is probably one of my favorite to wear among my wardrobe, but it would take a nail genius like Ji to think about creating it as a lacquer.  On my NC35, I find it flattering and unique.  To me, it's edgy but sophisticated, not hippie dippie.  And the durability in wear is tough as... well, nails?  I can get days without significant tippage.

Sally Hansen - Complete Salon Manicure Fedora vs RBL Jane from Tudors Collection

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Fedora, a pale taupe nude with warm champagne shimmer. This is a new (possibly LE?) shade from the same display from earlier posts featuring Problem Child and Golden Ticket. This is a great pale nude shade for most skin tones. It may not work on super pale skin tones with cooler coloring.

From the bottle, it reminded me a lot of Jane from Rescue Beauty Lounge's Real Housewives of the Tudor Dynasty collection. But on the nail, Jane is much paler and the shimmer is slightly more apparent in Fedora. Both are great neutrals. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to RBL's Jane, Fedora may be a good option, but RBL is having a 50% November 1st. So if your heart is set on Jane... you could wait until then.

Similar but Jane is much paler on the nail.

Thanks for looking!

Rescue Beauty Lounge - "The Real Housewives of the Tudor Dynasty" Collection

I love Ji Baek. She just takes the idea of nail polish collection to a whole new level. It impresses me that RBL puts as much insight into the a seasonal collection as fashion designers do. "The Real Housewives of the Tudor Dynasty" Collection, according to the press release, is referencing the beauty of extravagant, opulent brocade fabrics. Nothing says Fall to me more than rich fabrics, and these nail polishes definitely capture the idea of shimmer and capturing light against a lush, dense background of creamy color.

Here are the photos of the four colors. Each applied gorgeously with 2 coats. I do recommend letting the coats dry completely before applying the second. I found with the shimmer-rich shades, it helped create a smoother looking canvas. (*note to self: probably good advice for all nail polish but I'm impatient. hehe These are worth the wait.).

Jane - bottle shot. Notice the shimmer in the bottle. It's barely noticeable on the nail, but the shimmer gives the shade a depth.

Jane on the nail.

Catherine H. - a beautiful peacock blue with purple shimmer.

Catherine H. - bottle shot. I got the most compliments while wearing this.

Catherine - a rich eggplant purple with pewter shimmer.

Catherine - don't they say that purple is the color of royalty? (or at least that's what I remember from my Sweet Valley High novels).

Anne - gunmetal pewter with green undertone and bronze, gold shimmer.

More Anne - slightly more golden in this photo.

Anne - bottle shot.

In this shot, you can see hints of purple in the shimmer. A really complex and decadent color. My pick for the collection.

The Real Housewives are available on Rescue Beauty Lounge's site for $18 in limited quantities. All dynasties fall at some point I guess, so I would buy now if you are interested in any of these shades.
